Why Wayanad..

Friends,
As you all know, the grand re-union of the 35th batch is on April 20th, 2008. Being the vacation time for school going kids, April is the best month to chose for a family get together. Lots of people have shown vigorous interest to participate, but the venue is yet to be decided. It's been a long time since most of us have met each other, isn't it?

I am presently in Wayanad, Vythiri to be precise. I've been having my clinical practice in Vythiri for over 7 years. The reasons for my love to Wayanad are numerous, though the climate, the air, the hills and the Chembra peak, the plantations and its beautiful people, are among the few.

In Vythiri, the climate is more or like being in an air-conditioned open air theatre, through out the year. There are vast landscapes, beautiful hills with their lofty peaks, perennial springs and waterfalls, luxuriant forests and more than that, it's people, an ever welcoming population, waiting to meet you.

As you climb 700 meters above sea level through the Thamarassery Ghat Pass, you reach Lakkidi, the gateway to Wayanad. Its 55 kms from Kozhikkode. The roads, being the NH 212 to Bangalore, are good and mostly rubberized, makes it possible to reach Wayanad in an hour and a few minutes from Calicut. The valley-view,the clouds and its sleeping mountains, the mist and the people friendly monkeys are the main attractions at Lakkidi.

Pookot is near to the highway, has a beautiful freshwater lake that most of us might have visited during our College days. Situated amidst the surrounding green meadows, the walk around the lake is an ever refreshing one. There are facilities for row and pedal boating and the time spent together on a boat in the placid waters of this effervescent lake will be an unforgettable experience.

As you drive towards Kalpetta, you reach Vythiri, the place nestled between the Chembra mountains and the Sugandhagiri cardamom plantations. The msot attractive spot here has the Vythiri Clinic in it and its evergreen doc, that's me, hahahahaha!
